Ten of us met in Davao City, Philippines July 16, 2015. Most of us did not know each other. Yet, we had such unity right from the start through our common relationship with Jesus and our enjoyment of basketball. Over the course of the next 18 days, we saw the Lord use us in a few specific ways:
First, the Lord allowed us to use sports to minister for a different purpose. We were in Davao City, a city of about 1 million. There are 200-300 churches there so we were not there to help church planters. Rather, we were working with churches and leaders using our team to share the Gospel and inspire churches to develop their own sports ministries to bring Kingdom Impact their communities. Although some of the pastors and leaders who we thought would partner with us did not end up doing so, we saw God’s plan unfold as other unexpected pastors connected with the ministry and got excited about how sports could be used in their churches as a tool for evangelism and discipleship.
Second, the team was overall young in age and years walking with Jesus. It was a thrill to see these young men grow together as a group. It was a thrill to see them grow in their confidence, boldness, and ability to share the Gospel. It was a thrill to see people engaged as the Gospel was shared. It was a thrill to see pastors get excited and exhorted as the Gospel being shared in their communities.
Such a joy to see testimonies and the Gospel being shared
